Interim Release: PeerBlock 1.0+ (r187) (no replies)

We've posted a new Interim Release to our main website: PeerBlock 1.0+ (r187).

This release contains mostly just the changes made in between our latest Interim Release (r172) and the PeerBlock 1.0 Public Release (r181), and is meant to bring that Interim Release train back up to parity with that Public Release. If you're still interested in using the latest-and-greatest "beta" version of PeerBlock, this is the one you want!

We are still in the process of making plans for what our 1.1 release will contain, which is what this next series of Interim Releases will be building up towards. PeerBlock 1.1 is currently tentatively scheduled for December or January, and we will be releasing many Interim Builds as we progress with 1.1 development.

After a few months of hard work, we're proud to announce that we now have a stable 1.0 release up for download! Check it out on our new website: PeerBlock 1.0.

Just remember that this is a "Public Release", which means that it will only check for new Public Releases when it looks for updates - it won't detect any new Interim Releases. If you want to keep up with the latest-and-greatest features and fixes we come out with, you should consider sticking with your current Interim Release. We'll be generating a new Interim Release soon, to keep you on par with the few changes we've made in 1.0 versus the the 1.0 Release Candidate 2 Interim Release.

Thanks, and enjoy!

It's here! As per the PeerBlock r162 Interim Release post on our Dev Blog, we've just released the official PeerBlock 1.0 RC1 release. And yes, this version includes a signed driver! No more do 64-bit users have to test-sign pbfilter.sys or mash on F8 every time you reboot your machine, it should all just work now. LOTS of good fixes in there, too. What are you waiting for, check it out now!

Just please let us know how well it works for you, especially so if it doesn't work for some reason... And make sure to read the Known Issues section of that Dev Blog page if nothing else.

Just wanted to let you know that we've released a new Interim Release, as per the PeerBlock r93 Interim Release post to the Dev Blog. Remember that this is not necessarily going to be as stable as a full-blown Public Release, but it should be mostly so and does have some good stuff inside. Head over to the Dev Blog if you'd like to check it out.

Be aware that by installing this Interim Release, you will start to get notifications of new versions of PeerBlock whenever we release a new Interim Release. If you let PeerBlock take you to the website to download the new update (when one is available), it will take you to the Dev Blog from where you should be able to find the new version posted there. If you do NOT want to receive notice of new Interim Releases this way, either don't check for program updates, don't download this version at all, or reinstall PeerBlock 0.9.2 over top of it after playing with it - Public Releases like 0.9.2 will only notify you of new Public Releases.

Other than that, enjoy!

Get it Here:

What's Changed?

Here's what's new about this version, as compared with our last public release 0.9.1 (r71):

* Fix for OS Crash - A very few users have reported hitting a bug in which can cause Windows to crash during shutdown/reboot. (Bug#33) This release fixes that problem, and is the primary reason we're releasing a new version right now.

* Update Checking - Starting with v0.9.2, PeerBlock will now check for for program updates when checking lists. If it finds that a new version of PeerBlock is available, it will offer to take you to the PeerBlock site (this page, in fact!). You'll need to download and install the new version yourself, as we don't have any kind of "automatic updates" feature built in yet. This should help keep you up-to-date in case we need to release any new bugfix releases like this one.

Why the Huge Version Bump?

I know, it looks as if the program must have changed a lot since the last version was "named" r71, and this one is r86. The thing is, those "R Numbers" you're seeing are actually the revision of the code used to build that version of the program, and are primarily used by us in the dev team to identify exactly which version of source we need to look at when troubleshooting user-submitted problems. So don't put too much weight on that number.

Forums Rules (updated 08/04/2009) (no replies)

Welcome to the PeerBlock Forums. All forum rules will be in this thread. Anyone breaking them may be banned.

1. No use of explicit, obscene or vulgar language or images and/or messages, including racist remarks.

2. No advertising or links to advertising or "Spam" is permitted (including signatures).
* Advertising or Spam is defined as posting a link for the purpose of selling, soliciting or promoting by someone that has ownership or other "vested interest" to the web site involved, including efforts to promote other online forums or web sites by web site owners.
* Only links to personal home pages are allowed in signatures and member profiles. Links must be appropriate and abide by the rules or they will be removed.

3. No posts that attack, insult, "flame", defame, or abuse members or non-members. Respect other members of the community and don’t belittle, make fun off, or insult another member or non-member. Decisions about health and well-being are highly personal, individual choices. "Flaming" and insults, however, will not be tolerated. Agree to disagree. This applies to both the forums and chat.

4. Do not disrespect moderators. Be respectful in both the forums and any private communications with moderators. Moderators are volunteers that donate many, many hours of their own time to help in the forums and chat rooms. Violations of this rule will not be tolerated.

5. No irrelevant or off-topic posts. Posts which are not relevant to the forum topic may be deleted at the moderator's discretion.

6. No SHOUTING. Remember, using ALL CAPITAL LETTERS in posts is considered yelling and rude, plus it is difficult to read.

7. Check for open topics. Before posting a new topic, please check to see if there is already a topic open on the subject.

8. Welcome new members. When newcomers arrive, say "hi" and welcome them. Help new folks "learn the ropes" about how to find information and resources, save time, and how to get involved. You will also find a lot of help using the forums themselves.

9. Use descriptive titles for new posts. Avoid "generic" post subjects like "Help" or "Question". You will receive a better response to your posts by being more descriptive about the content of your post.
