block everything and make individual allow-list?

Hi,

Is it possible to block everything, but only allow
some individually choosen sites?

This could be very helpful with children!

regards
Bobby

sure it can be done, though using the opendns service is a lot easier.

Thank you for your response.
Could you explain how it can be done?
I don`t know what is the opendns service?

I am sorry, without details I cannot understand.

www.opendns.com and they offer dns servers that automatically block stuff for children too. customizable and usually better than your own isp dns servers.

About OpenDns: you can read up here on their website (e.g. check "Parental Controls" under "Features" at the bottom). RavenSoft most likely meant to refer to their different filters (anti-porn, for children, etc.) and the ability to create white- and blacklists that they offer to their users. It's a free DNS server that you have to include in your Windows Internet settings (a bit awkward to do). I use it as an additional DNS server in case my ISP's DNS-server fails. Many use it as a primary DNS server (you can set the priority in those Windows settings) and (depending on your location) it is said to load pages faster than other DNS servers.

Regarding your first point, if I understood it correctly, it appears to be VERY unpracticable: perhaps creating a total block would work, if you included an IP that covers the entire Internet IP range (somewhat like 0.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.255) and then created an exception list. Of course you would have to include your ISP's IP range and a whole lot of sites and services that you want to use. Really very unpracticable. Maybe rather try those custom filters that OpenDNS offers (those would also be more difficult for children to circumvent than just disabling PeerBlock).

(I just saw that RavenSoft had already answered while I had composed my response. I'll post it anyway, unadjusted. winking smiley )

Thanks for your responses.
The thing is, that I wanted an easy to switch solution.
Allowing only a couple of pages when children are using
my girlfriends computer, and for the rest of the time switching
of Peerblock in the tray.
Where or how could I create individual lists for PB?
The Idea of blocking everything
the entire Internet IP range (somewhat like 0.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.255)
sounds good...where can I do that?

Thank you
Bobby

If you go to [www.iblocklist.com] you will find several lists that can block hole countries like USA, Canda, China, European Union ... that you can import to peerbolck
