PeerBlock Blocking BitTorrent Update
January 25, 2010 02:59PM
When I have PeerBlock running, P2P list checked, BitTorrent can no longer connect to check for updates.

The IP being blocked is, which an IP lookup shows as

Hostname: ip-208-72-192-133.bittorrent.com
ISP: BitTorrent
Organization: BitTorrent
Proxy: None detected
Type: Corporate

I am new to PeerBlock but I thought it was supposed to be an ideal addition for running along side BitTorrent.

Is anyone else having this problem?

just allow bitcomet's ip. right-click on the blocked ip so it will update.

From using iblocklist.com's Search feature on that IP address, it looks like it's included in both the Bluetack Level1 (aka our default "P2P" list), as well as the Atma list as a Malware-providing IP.  We here at PeerBlock don't control the contents of these lists (as per our Why is "Some Company or Site" Blocked? FAQ), but to hazard a guess their inclusion on Bluetack's list is likely to do people's distrust of uTorrent's being bought-out by BitTorrent, Inc., and BitTorrent's subsequent attempts to develop ties to "Big Media" as a content distribution platform . . . as well as the fact that they apparently collect information on your use of uTorrent.  Atma on the other hand generally has some pretty good reasons for adding an IP to their list...

If you'd rather not have BitTorrent, Inc., blocked, you can easily create a custom Allow List containing their IP-address range(s).  Instructions on doing this can be found in the Creating Lists page of our online User Guide, just remember to create it as a list of type "Allow".  The applicable range (as per iBlocklist's search feature) appears to be:

BitTorrent, Inc:

...so when you're adding that range to your new custom Allow List, set it up as being a range from to

Hope that helps,
