It has always been a little too inefficient. Turning it off sometimes does not
solve problems it causes because some elements remain in the TCP stack.
P2P software already puts stress on networking drivers and ZoneAlarm was
usually the weakest link, causing connections to fail completely. When that
happens only a complete uninstall will restore a reliable connection.

They may have improved their performance a bit but they still use the design
that failed in the first place and therefore it will always be the first to fail.

They also had a serious breakdown in trust when it was found that it continued
to communicate with Zone Labs when all the features that involved that sort of
thing were disabled and Zone Labs was also added to it's blocking rules. Weak
claims that it was a bug didn't explain how it could bypass it's own firewall rules.

If it works for you then don't worry about it. If your connection tends to die when
you use P2P software then you are better off without it.
