What is Google Public DNS?
Google Public DNS is a free, global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider.
To try it out:
Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers or
Read our configuration instructions.
If you decide to try Google Public DNS, your client programs will perform all DNS lookups using Google Public DNS.

I highly do not recommend anyone to use Google, for any reason, including the search engine, especially the DNS server.

No matter what any one thinks, "research".
What I have found is that Google captures any data of "YOU" they can (sites you go to , things you down load/up load or search for), and sell your information to anyone who wants it, including giving the data to any government that requests it.

I always recommend that you use search engines like ASK.com or Scroogle or any others that don't try to steel your info for reasons to sell it.

I've had a quick look at both Google.com and Ask.com's privacy policies (http://www.google.com/privacypolicy.html and [about.ask.com] respectively)... they both keep their data (HTTP headers & search terms) for 18 months.

Ask does have a version (AskEraser) that keeps the data for only a few hours... however this is not guaranteed, and they will still record data infinitely if asked to by government. It does not work for "some elements or features" of their site, such as news and 'Smart Answers'.

Google does not supply their data to any third parties (unless legally required to). Ask supplies their data to third parties, such as their paid listing providers, who have separate privacy policies (Ask also supply data if legally required to).

Neither Ask nor Google guarantee the security of data, with Ask explicitly saying "we cannot guarantee the security of the information that we collect online.", and Google saying that employees who fail to abide by their confidentiality agreements "may be subject to discipline, including termination and criminal prosecution".

I cannot find Scroogle's privacy policy after a few minutes of searching their website, all I can see is "We don't use cookies, we don't save search terms, and logs are deleted within 48 hours" shown (in an image) on their homepage.

I don't want to get into a flame war winking smiley , I'm just stating what I can see on their sites.

I must say though...

is pretty funny smiling smiley

Something that you might want to search for is the interviews of the president/CEO for google this year, in 3 of them that I saw in news articles that he stated that they use the "metadata" on line for the advertising projects, and that they send db files to the US national government groups, for the "so-called" general info on Internet activity.

The WND and Newsmax sites also have had a number of articles of this same issue and operations by both Google and Yahoo search activities and statements by the management groups as well.

This is just a very small amount of the Google and Yahoo violations of the Personal Privacy violations, IMO.

I recommend that you look at other places other than the Google or Yahoo sites for any of this info. There are hundreds of publications and researchers that look in to this info.

You wand a general info from some one who does this research?? Read this Is Google spying on you?.
Just one of the basics on what I am talking about.

I must say the Google Dashboard is kinda scary...

Email, age, full name, interests, the fact that i had "dinner on May 13, 2006" (No joke), documents, my brother's name and email address (probably a few PB guys too - mark & a few users), all the websites i've ever worked on...

Yeah pretty scary.

I think all search engines keep this data though honestly...

Wait a second.
You find Google scary because of the new dashboard service (by Google), which showed you how much they have stored (at Google) about you on just one page instead of several dozen (your Gcalendar, your Gmaps, your Gtasks, your Gmails, your Gblog etc. etc. etc.)...

This (sry) is pants-on-the-head-crazy.

It's like those social network users who have a rude awakening after realizing that not only everyone and his dog but also their BOSS could see their "funny" drunken pictures (while they claimed to be "ill"), because they were so clever to put them up there for EVERYONE to SEE in the first place under their REAL NAME, arguing that they NEVER intended those pictures and details and phone numbers and websites and blog entries to be seen by anyone...

Oh lord, make it rain brains - so everyone can have one.
Also, take this free tinfoil hat - it will protect your thoughts from the alien invaders amongst us grinning smiley

read the privacy policy, they state that they store information and its well known that they sell that info to 3rd parties, maybe its only advertising, maybe not, maybe some of us like our privacy maybe not, if people werent so greedy we wouldnt be discussing this, i ask you this: how do you trust a company that stores your info in order to sell it? this has nothing to do with "tin-foil hats" (funny btw) but some of us just want our privacy.

You are absolutely Right, "brandonjm8"

"The root of all Evil, is the Love of GREED" ( the original translation from the Bible)

Too many people focus on Greed for them selves, and Google is on the top of the list.

Like I warned before about Google
Here is another, of what I am talking about.
Researcher exposes Google spyware connectionsLike I said, "Greed" (the root of all evil), seems to be the baseline of to many People, Companies, Country's and Leaders.

spying is the new advertising now, all they see is $$$ now, ethics and laws need not apply anymore. like they say its only illegal if you get caught kinda thing. if you ask me, once money is extinct and we all work for the betterment of mankind, things like these wont change, sucks.

Hey Guys,

Like I tried to explain earlier, Michael Kassner has done an even better job, and giving a newer idea to help protect the info I mentioned earlier, and he also has a couple of links where the CEO of Google stated about their use and storage if personal info. here is the story and link GoogleSharing: A way to prevent tracking by Google

*stunningly impressed*
Did you do some original research or did you hire a team of rocket scientists to figure that out?
Hint: It's already half-past the Industrial Revolution and those pesky North American colonists have dared to declare Independence...

Welcome to modern-day capitalist society, anno 2010! Guess what: Making profit is the goal of ALL and ANY company listed at the stock exchange... they ALL don't care neither about the people that work for them, the environment they are destroying or the fairness, equity and justice in human society...

PS: You are quoting the Bible - if you are in love with a theocracy, you should consider changing over to Islam and moving to Iran grinning smiley

PPS: To bring all this back on topic: Google offers services. A splendid online calendar, an astonishing IMAP-based E-Mail service and much more. If you think your mail is so much safer with any other company (that loves to shove down half a dozen "news"letters and advertising bombs down your throat on a daily basis), well - go for it!
Right now, I don't see any company offering comparable services:
I like to use googlemail, the online calendar and google docs - if there is someone with better (free!) services along the road, I might change, but right now, there is simply no one else...

PPPS: There _are_ companies that are organized differently. In "Capitalism - a love story" Micheal Moore shows an American bakery, where everyone in the company earns the same salary: From the top-notch CEO to the lowest packager of bread..

The trick about keeping inequality alive is reinforcing the delusional notion that somehow-somewhen even your little ghetto-born might "make it"/become the president of the United States and whatever fairy tale gets shoved down their impressionable throats...
Then (if you are one of the well-offs), of course, it is in your interest to lay off workers, outsource everything, cut down workers' salaries, remove benefits and smash unions because that's the only thing shareholders care about: the bottom line..

the only thing i can say is that this capitalist way above all else WILL lead to the our 2nd revolution, more of just a socialists revolution as opposed to a civil war. we wont be communist nor democracy (a "true" democracy that is) but a huge overhaul on reform of the gov't. it will happen and once our ever growing disparity between upper to lower classes increases and the shrinking of the middle class will make it happen once the majority of the people here are of the lower class, because of capitalism and the way business is being allowed to act and corruption the middle class is disappearing. as long as the rich get richer and the poor get poorer people like me preaching social revolution for major govt reform will always exist. itd be very nice if we were a "true" democracy but so would universal health-care both of which are impossible in this country, we should all move to canada, lol.

as far as "free" services go like google and yahoo ect., you have to expect that they will do whats necessary and profitable to make money off of you, its the world we currently live in. everybody must know what you are doing and everybody must shove their ideas down your throat, there is little to no privacy in our country anymore, our forefathers would be turning in their graves right now (well at least most of them).

Its a funny thing how a little news can blow wind into a political arena with vary little to no aim at all. Suppose for an instance we did live in the fairy tail world that was formed around us in our youth. The US pledge of elegance would speak truth. The Democratic Society of the nation would not exist and we would NOT pay taxes ect...

Since Lincoln enacting the vary first atrocity on the nation as a whole. We have not lived in a Union of free states Governed by a republic. More a union of divided taxed states is constant enslavement to the Almighty dollar and Governed by a Democracy.
This is not a lefty righty issue. This is as a whole the biggest lie ever told. Land tax was the worst illegal act that Lincoln passed as President.
He freed the slaves from their white oppressive owners, but made a new type of slave out of all of us. Just as soon as the ink dried on the paper that meant every man woman and child would be taxed we all became slaves to the almighty dollar. On Dec 24, 1913 in secret Traitor in Chief Woodrow Wilson enacted an act known to us as the Federal Reserve Act. Though against the constitution it became law. paving the way for a new Taxed revolution and the changing of our money from Lincolns GreenBack (which held its currency in absolute for exchange in gold) to a bill whose only value depended on Gross Annual Product. (A variable note with absolutely no value except that of which we give it by work.) In 1930 the Stock exchange went Broke on an instituted plan to flood the market with these No Gold Value notes. Once complete the Federal Reserve BANK owned the entire continent of America through debt. (If you read the header of a GreenBack note you will notice that basically it says exchangeable in Gold equivalent to that exchanged for the note. Our dollars today state this note is legal tender for all DEBTS public and private.) The question is... What is tender??? On the old steam locomotives they had to have a car that followed the engine. That car was referred as the coal car or the Tender car... So now we know what tender is and where the saying comes from "Burning a hole in your pocket"... Every Note you hold is a variable that could at any point mean nothing. A piece of Coal when burned/spent looses value.

This system is fail engaged to drive us into a socialistic order. So the Pledge of elegance states to a certainty that our elegance lies with a republic that no longer exists. Our Democratic society is not the society that existed in the primitive creation of this country. Our Money is accentually worthless, and we are all slaves to the US Federal Reserve Bank through the ownership of money and the Job we work to earn it.

So the next time you feel it logic to bring up the Tea Baggers or the Koolaid Drinkers just remember that your all Brainwashed Dope Smokers...

And keep the political cruft off this technical forum...

sorry for the preaching but i felt like saying it just as you just said what you did, as far as what you said I AGREE FULL-HEARTEDLY, preach on brother.

when the will of the states overwhelms the self-appointed majority of the FEDS then many things will be changing for the better.

as far as google goes, i just watched a report on MSNBC on google (i dont know how much merit this programs holds) and there were some good points/observations. 1) google DOES store every search query, why? they dont say, the only thing they will say is that IF they used that information their customers would go elsewhere, well if you ask me everythings legal til you get caught right? ;-). 2) google will soon overwhelm and control the internet if their growth continues, meaning if googles competition doesnt bring them (google) back to earth soon they (google) will soon own every single thing related to the internet if the internet itself.

i wonder if the "free internet" was ever free?
