Virus in IP refresh
October 12, 2011 01:46PM
Twice I have had a virus attack immediately after the automatic update of the latest blocked IP table. The virus was different each time, but both were fake security software programs that attempt to disable the real antivirus and then extort a fee. Why isn't Peerblock doing a better job of providing a secure file and verifying that no viruses are embedded?

You should scan your computer to make sure you aren't already infected with a virus.

PeerBlock will give an error on any invalid list format.

Also, which lists are you using?

Using only the P2P feature.

I scan my computer regularly; these two virus attacks came immediately after the automatic refresh finished.

I didn't recognize this behavior with the P2P List.
In such cases, it is helpful to use a backup program for the system partition. It's clear, to always store a trustable configuration.

-- EaseUS Todo Backup Free -- -- Backup & Recovery 2011 (Advanced) Free --

Then it is easy to examine, by backup recovery, if this virus is already there or from what download site it is originate.
You also can check your computer after updating for changes.
