How does PeerBlock block a connection?
April 13, 2014 11:15AM
Hello, I have 2 questions about PeerBlock.

1. PeerBlock says that it "block" the packets, but what does that mean? Does Peerblock "REJECT" the packets, or does it "DENY" / "DROP" the packets?

2. Can PeerBlock also be used to block a DoS attack? (like a DDoS but only from a single source). That means, if you know the IP from the bad guy, and you block it with PeerBlock, can it "DENY" / "DROP" or "REJECT" the packets without that your internet connection / server crashes due to the DoS attack?

Regards,
Max Simon

Yes... Peerblock simply blocks all traffic from selected IPs whether they are coming or going from your system. It doesnt do any specific packet handling though. Like "DENY" "DROP" "REJECT" it prevents packets from even being sent or received.
