Peerblock is unable to load the packet filtering driver
April 17, 2014 03:33AM
I keep getting this error upon starting the latest Peerblock. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, and restarted dozens of times. I've tried installing various older versions with the same result. Can't work it out.

Hi, I'm running XP. It says it works with XP, and always has in the past. I've been using Peerblock successfully for a long time, this just started happening a few weeks ago.

I'm running XP x32 and using the latest Peerblock, 1.2. But I've tried several older versions of Peerblock and it still happens.

Hi I have the same or similar error. I it happens because of another program I installled that starts before Peerblock. I can get Peerblock to run if I use Panda Cloud Cleaner's Kill All Processes function. After using it Peerblock will run.

Windows 7 Professional SP1 X64
PeerBlock 1.2 (r693)

I've not run into the same problem myself, but you could try something like the Startup Delayer ( [www.r2.com.au] ) . With that you can have your other programs start after PeerBlock's done starting. Might work for now.

After killing all processes I re-launched them one at a time till I found the culprit. For me, Running Spybot-S&D's Resident caused this problem. I right clicked on it and clicked "Exit Spybot-S&D Resident" and then started peerblock and it started right up, no more error. Im Running PeerBlock 1.2 (r693) and Spybot S&D 1.6.2.0 with system settings protector 1.6.6.32.

A note:
Even though it claimed to not run I noticed it was running because I could visit no HTTP sites while HTTPS worked fine. All though it did not show up in Task Manger, it did have a PID.

Another note:
Starting Peerblock before Spybot seems to let both programs run. I'll try your suggestion for the startup delay and see if it works.

Thanks,
-Ben
