This is Issue #208, which has been recently fixed and will be released in our next Beta Release.

The root cause of this problem is likely that you have a peerblock.conf file of size 0 bytes.  To resolve it, delete this file and restart PeerBlock.  PeerBlock will bring up the "Startup Wizard" again since it will detect no .conf file, but should work well after that.

Again, this issue should be much better handled starting with our next Beta Release.  During startup it will save aside a copy of your configuration as a "last known-good config" file, and if it ever has problems like this loading your config it will use this saved copy.  It will also pop up a window to let you know that this has happened.

Sorry you've hit this problem,

I had the same bug for few days until I found this thread. I followed Mark's instructions and it "cured" the issue. Then, after the wizard and setting my 2 private files, I saved a copy of the config file just in case it happens again before the next beta release. It is a good idea to suggest coming to this forum on the issue notice. Thank you Mark.

I got my 1st exception today, using the newest beta; screenshot attached. (Restarted Peerblock; all of my list-picks were 'unchecked', and had to be freshly downloaded, but PeerBlock worked fine afterwards.

[forums.peerblock.com] ( very bottom image )

This error means that your " peerblock.conf " is corrupted
There is currently no way to fix than other than to Update to the latest PeerBlock 1.0+ Beta.
The current Beta version of PeerBlock is set to create a back-up your your config, and if the main config is corrupted, PeerBlock will load the back-up, preventing this error from happening.

That is what the ben7530 is already using.

Hm, this is the second peerblock.conf corruption issue we've seen reported with the newest Beta.  sad smiley  I'm wondering if maybe a recent update to the XML-reading library we use (TinyXML) might be causing this?

If you could post the peerblock.log and peerblock.conf files from your C:\Program Files\PeerBlock directory, we can look into them to see if there's any useful data there.

Sorry you hit this problem,

Mark,

Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately, the exact same error popped up today when I booted up.

Same symptoms; seems like the conf. file gets nuked. I also noticed (the hard way smiling smiley ) that this means that it defaults to 'block HTTP'.

The files you requested are attached.

Best,

Hmm, we're actually overwriting this "bad" config-file while we're in the process of shutting down after receiving this error . . . this means we won't be able to use your .conf file to attempt to reproduce the problem.  If you can get it to happen again, before clicking the "Ok" button on the error-window popup please make a copy of your peerblock.conf file (or immediately upload it, or zip it up, or something) - that way we should be able to preserve this "bad" copy of it.

Ben7530, I just PMed you with a link from which you can download a "test version" of PeerBlock, one which will hopefully help us figure out this issue.  Please check your Private Messages via the link in the top-right corner of these forums, and give it a shot.

Thanks in advance,

Mark--

With that new beta, the problem has not reoccurred. Good job!

If it happens again, I will PM you.

Thanks; for this instance of help and PeerBlock in general!!!
