Some beginner questions
May 30, 2010 07:57AM
Hi,

I have some basic questions abut PeerBlock.

I know : it's block only IP.

Is there a way to block a dns address ?

Is there a way to get statistics of visited IPs ? and DNS resolutions of them ? (can I use awstats or something else, to parse and get statistics of the logs of accessed IP ?)

Thanks for you help smiling smiley

Heya nothing.

Yes, there is a way to block DNS addresses (ie www.google.com), but not with PeerBlock. To block DNS addresses you'd have to edit the HOSTS file in your computer to map the desired addresses to go to 127.0.0.1. More detailed information here (link: [en.wikipedia.org] ).

On the statistics side, well... I don't really know is that possible. Perhaps someone with more knowledge on this might answer later on.

I hope my answer helped you.

Thanks for your help.

I know about hosts files.

Statistics : I know that awstats can parse some logs, and we can tell to awstats what field to choose, when logs are in a plain text file.
Can we export the history DB to a plain text file ?

You can export the history db as a txt file. You need to open the history window > File > Export to.
